National Anti-Hazing Campaign
As Phi Beta Sigma continue into the next 100 years, we stand proud in the footprints of the legacy our founders envisioned at Howard University. In 2012, the Fraternity launched an Anti-Hazing Campaign designed to eradicate hazing and protect Sigma’s heritage. Hazing is a disease that, if not addressed, can plague our beloved Fraternity and threaten its existence. The Fraternity’s goal was to develop initiatives that focused on educating and empowering our Brotherhood to serve as agents of change in the battle against hazing.
Phi Beta Sigma was founded on strong moral, social, and academic principles. Hazing or any activity which subjects individuals to harassment, intimidation, physical exhaustion, or mental distress among other things is contrary to the Fraternity’s founding principles. All chapters have a new member education program that is designed to teach new members the history, traditions, values, and expectations of the organization. Hazing has no place in these activities and under the direction of the national organization, the Executive Board of Omicron Alpha Sigma Chapter works closely with the Membership Chairperson to set and reinforce clear expectations for new member activities. This includes setting reasonable limits on time commitments, activities, and length of programs.
Hazing is against the law, and the leadership team of the Chapter has a zero tolerance policy concerning such. Rites and traditions may vary among chapters but none should involve abuse of any kind. If you have concerns that hazing may be occurring, please contact the Regional Director to make an anonymous report.
Thanks for your Support of our National Anti-Hazing Awareness Campaign!
