Education

The basis of the Education program lies in the traditional emphasis that the Fraternity places on education. During the 1945 Conclave in St. Louis, Missouri, the Fraternity underwent a constitution restructuring which led to the birth of Education as an international program. The program focuses on programming and services to alumni and collegiate in the Fraternity. Programs such as scholarships, lectures, college fairs, mentoring and tutoring enhance this program on local, regional and national levels.

Scholarships

Omicron Alpha Sigma (OAS) Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated gives two male high school seniors College Scholarship awards.  The scholarship program is developed to motivate and support college aged students who may not otherwise have the resources, or the inclination, to pursue a college education.  What makes this program unique from more traditional scholarship opportunities, is the emphasis on a student’s background and personal history as criteria for the final award determination.  This scholarship targets male students who may not have family support or financial resources to pursue their post-secondary education.  Omicron Alpha Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated aims to encourage and support male students from disadvantaged backgrounds to persevere and pursue a college education.  We believe that through education, students can break the cycle of poverty, and create a brighter and more rewarding future for themselves, their families, and the community.

In addition to belonging to a disadvantaged group, applicants have to be a member of the Fraternity’s Male Youth Mentoring Program, The Sigma Beta Club and demonstrate the commitment to academic improvement, leadership and community service.  Omicron Alpha Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated is confident that investing in our young people today will produce effective leaders of tomorrow.
